Happy 4th of July to my gardening friends.....here is some red, white and blue to celebrate the day!
Red Bee Balm, White Shasta Daisies, and Blue Bachelor Buttons outside the picket fence. This is a bit messy, but I like the cottage look and feel of it.
A close up of the flowers.
Scarlet Bee Balm (Monarda didyma), reminds me of fireworks. I used it in a red, white and blue floral bouquet last Fourth of July.
And lastly, a photo of our flag.....unfurled in the summer breeze.

That's a beautiful combination of flowers!
I love the colors of those flowers against the backdrop of the white fence. Delightful! I'm working towards a cottage garden look, and a top priority is incorporating a white picket fence somewhere.
How lovely and appropriate. I like the picket fence as a background for the flowers. Nice.
The bachelor buttons look so pretty with the Red bee balm and the contrasting white Shasta Daisies.
I hope you had a good holiday!!
Very cottage-y indeed. The flowers look great with that white picket fence, so very American. :-)
Did you have a lovely holiday?
How beautiful!! I think it should appear on the cover of a book on cottage gardens... for sure!
It doesn't look the least bit messy to me. I love it. I don't think cottage gardens look messy at all. There is only one cottage garden that has baffled me and perplexed me in its messiness and I can't figure out why it looks messy to me. I see it every time I go anywhere and I still haven't figured it out.
That looks lovely! I love the feel of it and the colors are just perfect together!
Beautiful!
if only everything "messy" could look this good. Such a dreamy combo.

Hi Connie, thanks for visiting my blog and for the seed suggestions. I've been checking out your blog for suggestions on annuals and it's very helpful. I'm gonna give it a try!
The english country garden was my original inspiration.
I think it looks great!
What beautiful 4th of July photos, great job!
Monarda is a funny flower, isn't it? The hummingbirds love it! I'm still waiting for my bee balm and daisies to bloom....
Gorgeous!! Did you plan for this red-white-and-blue combination to be in bloom for the Fourth?
I love it!
To ALL - Thank you for your nice comments!
YE - Yes, a nice holiday, but very quiet without our kids here this year.
Lisa - Very few things in my garden are "planned", ha. The one thing I actually planted here was the Bee Balm, the rest are volunteers. I love self sowing annuals! The key to keeping it all in balance is to weed out lots and keep a few...I am still trying to perfect that technique and usually let too many plants grow! Around this time of year, I end up doing a lot of dead-heading and pulling out of spent plants.
Me - Maybe that is why the garden you mentioned looks messy, as perhaps the dead heading and pulling out of spent plants has not been kept up?
What great photos - perfect flower combo for the 4th!!
