Now that the Coneflowers are in full bloom, the Butterflies are making frequent visits to the flower garden.
Just one of the side benefits of this wonderful summer flower, which blooms it's heart out despite our hot dry summers!

I am soooo jealous. this is the kind of picture I dream of taking. Coneflowers rule! your garden uglies aren't so awful. if you're willing to take a chance on those chinese lantern seeds, i suspect they would do well in the raised bed. don't know what's under there but the rocks might be enough to keep the roots contained.
good luck. I'll have to do a garden uglies posting soon. I've got lots of them.

I just took pictures like that today and yesterday. Beautiful! Have a nice weekend. Andrea
Connie, thanks for your comment on my blog.....I absolutely love yours. I am adding you to my "favorite blogs" list. :o)
the other morning i chased around a butterfly for a good 10 minutes trying to snap a great picture just like you have on your blog today. i wondered if you guys just happen on a beautiful butterfly on your beautiful flower or if you have some secret i have yet to learn.
Irena - It has taken me quite a few tries to get a good shot of a butterfly...they are soooo flighty! Thanks for the info on Chinese lanterns, will probably try some from seed next year, since I have it.
Andrea - Thanks...hope to see your photos up on your blog soon!
Krista - Thanks! It's a great 'garden blog community' here.
Gina - Don't feel bad...it has taken me a couple of years to catch one sitting still long enough to get a photo! But I have gotten several decent photos this year. It helps to have flowers they like in your garden. ;-)
What a great picture!!! Just beautiful!
How cool! What a great shot that is. Sadly.... we don't have butterflies that visit us...
Wow Connie - what a great picture! That looks like a professional photo - can't believe you captured that butterfly so beautifully.
I agree with Kathi... that is a very professional-looking photo. It should grace the cover of a magazine. Great job!
Great photo! I love coneflowers... and the butterflies that visit them are always so enjoyable to watch.
Coneflowers, like Verbena bonariensis and the Buddleias are such butterfly magnets aren't they? I recently bought 2 coneflowers at Piet Oudolf's nursery; one burgundy red one and a white one too. Now they are in flower for the first time and the butterflies are happy! I am too, of course. ;-)
That is a wonderful picture!! I see it all the time in my garden, but I have yet to snap it. My coneflowers are starting to look pathetic. The bees and butterflies still seem to like them!
Coneflowers and butterflies just seem to go together! Great photo.
What a picture! Beautiful.
I have been seeing so many butterflies in our yard lately. Perhaps I will get lucky with my camera, too.
Butterflies and now rain! Two of God's greatest garden gifts ...
