Squash Update

A while back I did a post on a new squash I am growing this year called Sunshine. I have been surprised at how vigorous the vine is and how many nice sized fruit is it bearing.

They are so pretty in their bright orange coats....they remind me of pumpkins!

Here are a couple of immature Butternut squash. They seem to be developing fruit rather late this year, so I hope they will ripen before frost. They are pretty, too, at this stage...with their lovely medium and light green stripes.

Connie, will the orange squash also taste like pumpkin? It sure is beautiful.

Bev - I don't know...but I'm hoping it's sweeter than pumpkin. This was the catalog description.... "...sweet, nutty, creamy, absolutely smooth flesh."

That sounds delicious! And it's even beautiful to look at too. What more could you ask?

I love the sunshine squash - very pretty! I don't do any veggies except tomatoes - so thanks for sharing your photos.

Connie, what a pretty squash! I'll be curious to know how it tastes, too. Heck, that would be pretty just for fall decorations!

Yes that orange one reminds me of pumpkin too.. How big does it get? Let me know how it tastes.. It looks like a keeper.

Your Sunshine squash has such a beautiful vivid color. I bought a similar looking one at Whole Foods but though it looked beautiful I didn't like it nearly as much as a butternut or kabocha. Let us know if you like it.

What a beautiful squash! And butternut are one our favorites. Barefoot Contessa has one of my favorite recipes for butternut squash. I wish we could grow pumpkins and squashes here.... they're such lovely fall colors.

The sunshine squash reminds me so much of autumn. I can't believe that it's just around the corner. The little butternut looks so sweet. At least you get to enjoy looking at them, even if you don't get to eat them. :)

I wished I had a spot for a vegetable garden. Your squash looks great, but it also reminds me that fall is just around the corner. Greetings from Germany, Andrea

Wonderful squashes! You're inspiring me to try some winter squashes (in addition to my pumpkins) next year.
