Good-Bye Garden
Our first killing frost came early this year, on October 8th....and it came hard, with the thermometer dipping to a a chilly 24 degrees! By the time I got out to view the damage the sun had already melted the frost.....so no lovely frost pictures like last year.
This orange Cosmos is hanging its head....succumbing to the inevitable. Oh, how I will miss the cheerful flowers!

We've just gotten out of mid80s temps. It's cooler and rainy today and I think I saw a temp down in the upper 30s for next week. It's coming....Cameron
Well, God surely breathed hard here! I've just cleaned out all my squashes, tomatoes, zinnias and cosmos from the garden. I still have one bed to go, the one loaded with calendulas. Some are still blooming, as are some of the tiny marigolds. It is a stark view from the studio to see the tomato pavillion out there covering nothing.
on the bright side, colder temperatures are the perfect excuse to cozy up with some hot chocolate and your favourite garden books, magazines and seed catalogues. your frost photos from last year are lovely.

OMG you've already had it? I just posted on the beauty of my garden right now..knowing that the end is coming..soon. I'm not ready for it..oh how sad that you already experiencing it..so sorry for your loss!
Hi Connie, it's such a bittersweet time of year. An early frost is never welcome here!
I've been busy bringing in tender plants and we're on borrowed time. Frost could hit any day here.
I feel for you. Here in DC we've had crazy weather and I've been trying to prepare for the inevitable, but it never makes it any easier.
We got hit hard, too this weekend. I have been lout cleaning up the dead plants and bringing in my lpots of geraiums. I though they would be safe under the porch at night, but that didn't work last night.
That is a beautiful shot of a gone-by flower, though.
The photo speaks for itself, beautiful! We are supposed to get a killing frost tonight, the 1st of the season.
