We have been doing several DIY projects around our place this year. The most ambitious one has been the painting of our house. I am posting some before and after photos to show the amazing difference paint can make.
BEFORE.....Not so bad, kind of country looking, but I was ready for a lighter color. If you click to enlarge, you will note the pointed shutters, which reminded me of a Swiss Chalet.
AFTER! I absolutely love the new color, Banana Cream, by Sherwin Williams. The trim is True Value Pure White. We used primer to cover the dark color, and then two coats of yellow. I painted the shutters and trims, and my dear husband did all the rest. I used the chop saw to trim the shutters even on the tops and bottoms for a more classic look. [Yes, real women do use power tools...smile. ] We have a few details to finish.....my clematis was still blooming on the right porch post, so it will be painted white and then we will add some Victorian trim pieces to the porch corners. The door will be painted to match the brick planter which is hidden by the honeysuckle. I will update with more photos later.

Thank you, Dear Husband for my new house.
I believe it has now graduated from a Country House....to a
real Cottage!

It made it look like you got a new roof also. I like your renovations.
I love the color. THe first house we owned was yellow. It's very nostalgic to me and perfect for a cottage.
It just springs to life. I though it looked cute before but this is a more classic look and I think it looks bigger too. Great job!
Looks great! I love the color too, it really complements the garden nicely.
How lovely! Good job on everything and congratulations!
Hi, Connie, Congratulations on the makeover!! That yellow is a perfect color! LOVE it! And you're right--your white picket fence is just the ticket!
Connie, your new house looks wonderful. I lived next door to a yellow house for several years and I always thought that house was the prettiest on the block. It looks so cheerful. Love it!
It is so pretty! It just dazzles. I know you will enjoy the new paint color and it will lead to a lot more primping, I am sure.
Nothing says cottage like yellow - LOVE it! Our last house was this exact same yellow and I miss it!
Lovely - I like how it moves forward and is visible rather than recedes like it did when it was blue - much more inviting this way.
Darling! It almost looks like it could animated, like a great Disney movie. So sweet is the new look that the whole atmosphere is changed. I know your love it!!
Lovely! Its amazing how much a fresh coat of paint and a new color can make such a HUGE difference. You home looks terrific-great color choice :-)
Oh wonderful! I love this colour - I've always wanted a house in exactly that colour but so far I haven't lived in one that could pull it off.
It's a very pretty color! A beautiful cottage! The color before was pretty also!
Enjoy your makeover, & your week!

I love that color, and the fence, and the flowers...
Great makeover!
Oh it's just beautiful! I was sure you couldn't improve on the first picture, but you did and I love it. Seems like the flowers compliment the yellow better than the blue. Congrats on a true cottage.
Love the new look, Connie!
Really liking your color change!
Oh Connie, your 'new' house is beautiful! You know, I heard if you want to make a house more appealing to buyers, paint it yellow. It's a really pretty color. Your house looks so inviting.
Wow! It looks great--I like the blue, but the "banana cream" really warms the place up.
And I'm with you: Real women use power tools!!!
Does the new color make the house look larger too?
Cute house.
