Fall Fungi

Now that the Fall rains have arrived, mushrooms seem to be popping up everywhere! Though they are not showy like flowers, they have a certain appeal of their own, many being quite diminutive in size. It sometimes takes a keen eye to spot them....but is worth the search.

A trio of tiny toadstools.

A pretty pair..... charming in their little brown caps.

A stocky single specimen.

This looks a little like the type you buy in the grocery store, but I'm sure it isn't edible. I don't know a thing about classifying these, but if anyone can identify them, feel free to do so in the Comments.

I like the way the light plays behind this fragile little mushroom.

And lastly.... my favorite photo. Same mushroom as above, plucked and turned upside down to reveal the intricate gills on it's underside.

  1. Oh, Connie, those are glorious! I spied the larges most gruesome-looking ones in my south flower garden on Monday. It never occured to me to photograph them. You are brilliant...and so are they!

  5. Those are truly great shots! I don't know how to tell them apart so it's the grocery store for my edibles. I do know if you place them cap side up on a white sheet of paper--the spores will fall out after a couple of days and make a cool pattern. You can spray the pattern with an adhesive and frame the piece.

  7. I don't know anything about them either. I just look on them as fragile little gifts that appear and disappear like magic overnight. You can't help but enjoy them.

  11. Hello Connie, what a lovely post. I love your photos and work unfortunatly so does some BAD people! Look at my latest post! Read and weep....I'm furious but I do not know what we can do. If we all could write to Wordpress and tell them to stop this blog/site. Please let me know if you know what to do./ LOL Tyra

  12. Great pictures of your mushrooms. WE have had an invasion of the tiny ones in one of our borders. I picked them all out. Maybe I should have taken a picture of them after seeing yours? Andrea
