Now that the Fall rains have arrived, mushrooms seem to be popping up everywhere! Though they are not showy like flowers, they have a certain appeal of their own, many being quite diminutive in size. It sometimes takes a keen eye to spot them....but is worth the search.

A stocky single specimen.
This looks a little like the type you buy in the grocery store, but I'm sure it isn't edible. I don't know a thing about classifying these, but if anyone can identify them, feel free to do so in the Comments.
I like the way the light plays behind this fragile little mushroom.
Oh, Connie, those are glorious! I spied the larges most gruesome-looking ones in my south flower garden on Monday. It never occured to me to photograph them. You are brilliant...and so are they!

ReplyDeleteThose are truly great shots! I don't know how to tell them apart so it's the grocery store for my edibles. I do know if you place them cap side up on a white sheet of paper--the spores will fall out after a couple of days and make a cool pattern. You can spray the pattern with an adhesive and frame the piece.

ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about them either. I just look on them as fragile little gifts that appear and disappear like magic overnight. You can't help but enjoy them.
